An eye in the sky may sound like something of a cliché but tracking systems that employ GPS technology to locate and track vehicles on land, sea and in the air are, essentially, just that. A transponder located in the vehicle is able to establish its position relative to those of 4 or more satellites in earth orbit and timestamp it.
Having access to this basic data means that a suitable communication protocol may now be used to relay it to a base station where specialist software is then able to calculate a range of derived data such as a vehicles average speed, the time taken to effect a given delivery or the distance to the next drop-off point to name just a few.
Satellite tracking systems are invaluable to effective fleet management and in the recovery of stolen vehicles. Contact us for more on our advanced tracking solutions.
